We now have a nice Piwik open source web analytics 2min40 Promo Video

Proposed changes - This could be the top right video in the dashboard. - Below the video, we would write "This is the Piwik promo video. You can close this widget by clicking on the $IMG icon at the top right of this widget. " - The widget would also invite users to share the videos to their friend, eg. a link or a form with emails to send? - Important: By default, the video does not load any content from youtube.com or google.com. It displays a custom made thumbnail of the video. On click, the iframe opens and loads content from youtube. But only on click as we don't want to create third party requests by default.

This way users could learn the feature of closing widgets, plus we get a chance for them to see it.

(In [7822]) Fixes #3229, added widget that displays Piwik promo video. Added widget to default dashboard of non-superuser users.

awesome! This video in the default dashboard, will introduce hundreds of users to Piwik in a very nice and useful way.

I like the idea, however there are a number of countries where Youtube is completely blocked:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_of_YouTube

"As of September 2012, countries with standing national bans on YouTube include China, Iran, Pakistan, Syria, and Turkmenistan."

In these countries Piwik might not be very popular, but I still think it is worth mentioning that people will not be able to watch the video.

Ideally we would host the videos ourselves, I agree. WE also could have them for download as MP4... maybe later in the year we can host videos (and at same time, track Video metrics in the player using Piwik!) but not a priority now.
